This lyrical retelling of the Biblical tale of Daniel is both accurate and charming. The story follows Daniel as he is taken to Babylon and placed in Nebuchadnezzar’s court as an interpreter of dreams. As Daniel wins the confidence of the king, he earns the hatred and distrust of Nebuchadnezzar's other advisors. Daniel’s role as a trusted counselor continued through the reign of several different kings, until jealous advisors hatched a plot to have him thrown to the lions for his faith in God. With courage and faith, Daniel survives and is welcomed back to the king’s court. This retelling does an excellent job of making this story of courage, honesty, hope, and faith accessible and pleasing for young readers.
