In this richly illustrated biography young readers are introduced to the life and achievements of the pioneering astronomer, Galileo. A man of deep curiosity with a thirst for knowledge and understanding, Galileo spent his life observing the world around him. Among his many other scientific discoveries and inventions, he constructed a telescope which allowed him to observe previously unseen features of our solar system. His observations supported the heliocentric view of our solar system, which radically challenged widespread beliefs. With courage and honesty, Galileo published his findings and was subject to persecution and punishment as a result. The author uses beautiful and simple language to tell the somewhat complex story of Galileo, and the detailed illustrations and maps add beauty and further historical context.
