Originating as a Scottish folksong passed down through generations, this rhyming verse, accompanied by award winning illustrations, tells the story of Lachie MacLachlan and his family who generously welcome every passing traveler into their home. Repeatedly announcing “there’s always room for one more”, MacLachlan welcomes a tinker, a sailor, a bagpiper, and many more. Together they joyfully dance and sing until the house falls down. In gratitude every traveler helps to build MacLachlan a bigger house where there will “always be room for one more”. Although written in Scottish dialect with some traditional Scottish vocabulary, the essence of this rollicking tale comes through clearly. This is a wonderful tale of hospitality, generosity and kindness.
