A retelling of a Plains Indian story featuring the popular character Iktomi who is given the magical ability to send his eyes to the top of a tree. Excited and hoping to impress everyone in his camp, Iktomi fails to follow the directions he was given and loses his eyes. After receiving kindness from some animals, Iktomi learns from his mistake and regrets his vanity and pride. A slightly different, but wonderfully illustrated version of this story is written by Paul Goble.
